The Women of Luke 8 Day 13

Another woman specifically mentioned in Luke 8 is Joanna, the wife of Chuza.  Her husband worked for Herod making Joanna a lady of the court.  Chuza had the high ranking job of taking care of King Herod’s financial interests.  Due to holding this position, we know Chuza was a trusted and important individual.

Many Biblical scholars link Chuza to the royal official referred to in the account of John 4:46-53.

Whether the royal official in John 4 is Chuza or not, we know one thing for sure.  Chuza’s role in the palace opened up a door for Joanna to share about Christ with others in the palace despite the fact that King Herod was not a follower of Christ.

What doors have been opened for you to share about Christ with others?

What are the challenges of sharing the love of Christ with these individuals?

  1. God has opened so many doors for me over the years. I think the biggest challenge in sharing Christ is to get over myself. My fear of rejection or fear of offending. I have never experienced either when I have shared Christ’s love or what he has done for me with others. I find if I remember that He is the one who put the opportunity in my path, I am not so self absorbed about it. I also feel inadequate at times due to a lack of knowledge or having the right words, but again, in my experiences, God gave me the right words to say and scripture I didn’t even know was in my brain just popped out! God is good all the time!

  2. Mission trips with the church to Mexico City and Jamaica to help conduct Bible Schools provided many opportunities to share the love of Christ. Here in my community, we have a Bible Study group. I have a good friend here who is Jewish and every time we are studying in the Old Testament, I invite her. She usually laughs and hasn’t come yet, but who knows. I think if we really look closely each day, we can perhaps reach people just by our actions.
